Nationalist party in South Africa

The 1948 South African general election was held on 28th May 1948 to elect the members of the 4th Parliament of South Africa. The United Party, led by J.G. Strijdom won a narrow victory over the Herenigde Nasionale Party, led by Daniel François Malan.
 
General elections were held in South Africa on 28th May 1948. There were two parties: The United Party and the Herenigde Nasionale Party. The UP was aligned with the left-leaning Labour Party, while the Afrikaner Party sought to advance Afrikaner rights by allying with the HNP. Only few colored and Asian descent voted Africans were allowed to vote. Africans were also banned from voting because they were considered inferior races due to their skin color and culture.The HNP, pledged and implemented a strict policy of racial segregation and they names this new system as “apartheid” (“apartness” or “separation”)

Bob Marley and the Wailers

Among the most influential and beloved artists in music history, Bob Marley was the charismatic front man of The Wailers, one of the greatest reggae bands ever formed.

After hearing about Rastafarianism from a fellow passenger on his way back to Jamaica from the United States in 1963, he converted to the religion and changed his name from Robert Nesta Marley to simply Bob Marley.

Shortly after this conversion he met Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer who became part of his new band called The Wailing Rudeboys which later evolved into The Wailers.

 

Lloyd Parks

Lloyd Parks is a legendary Jamaican bass player, singer and producer. He has been part of some of reggae’s most influential bands including The Professionals, Skin Flesh & Bones and We The People Band.

Lloyd Parks was born on 26 May 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica. He started playing music at an early age being influenced by his father who played the banjo. He began working with producers such as Joe Gibbs and Sonia Pottinger before becoming a session musician for producers like Bunny Lee and King Tubby.

He was the anchor of choice for top studios including Randy’s, Joe Gibbs, Federal, and Channel One Recording Studios where he recorded countless hits with artists like Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor and Gregory Isaacs. In 1978 he formed We The People Band with Dennis Brown who had been his friend since childhood.

On 25 October 1999 Parks was awarded the Order Of Distinction (Office Class) for his contribution to Jamaican music.
